ABOUT

GUCCIVUITTON is proud to present Agency, a series of designed functional works and proposals by Cristina Lei Rodriguez.  For this exhibition, Rodriguez presents the culmination of functional works that have been in development for over a year.  Also included within the exhibition are collaborative designs and wall-coverings produced with Edge Collections.

Known for her colorful detritic organic aesthetic, Cristina Lei Rodriguez continues to push outside boundaries that have been present in her recent work.  Taking cues from outliers and rule benders like the Arte Povera movement, Frederick Kiesler and Tony Duquette, the functional works in this exhibition propose to exist in a grey area or as crossovers vested in a conversational dichotomy between commodity and consumption, installation and social space, and discrete object and furniture.

These functional works will be presented within Guccivuitton and activated by Agency-Miami, an arts-incubator directed by Cristina Lei Rodriguez, to experiment with and advance models for sustainable practices.  The relationship between the functional works and their transformative narratives will become apparent as they are activated and repurposed through the weekly programming at the gallery.  Such programming includes workshops by Cristina Lei Rodriguez, a collaboration with Kambui Olujimi, and local artists such as Loriel Beltran, Domingo Castillo and many more. These projects propose to engage an expanded audience through direct access and the exploration of alternate art economies outside the established art gallery model.
