The “CAFAM Future” Exhibition is founded by China Central Academy of Fine Art (CAFA) and curated by its Art Museum. Its goal is to encourage young artists to explore artistic languages and move forward in terms of concepts, and at the same time to discover the new talents. It aims to become the core power station for Chinese contemporary art. The 2nd “CAFAM Future” exhibition in the year 2015 represents the “young and future”, with an emphasis on visual design. In addition to the efforts of the organizer CAFA Art Museum, it is also supported and sponsored by K11 Art Foundation, Beijing 798 Cultural Creative Industry Investment Co., Ltd. Among the work team, Professor Xu Bing from CAFA and Jean de Loisy, Director of Palais de Tokyo are the chief curators, Wang Huangsheng, Director of CAFA Art Museum, is the art director of the show.

The theme is “Hackerspace”. Currently there is no standard definition for this word, but it usually means a community of people who believe in creativity, innovation and practice, enjoy sharing with others, and insist on pursuing a happy life. Nowadays, “Hackerspace” in China is a community that includes software developer, artists, designers, and leading figures in many areas. The exhibition title suggests that the young artists are experiencing and participating in an evolution in art creation due to technological revolution.

Director Wang Huangsheng emphatically introduced the most important changes of the exhibition: “individual nomination” was replaced by the “institution nomination”. There are 64 art institutions included in the selection of artworks, 232 artists (group) are nominated, and then within the scope of the nominated artists, according to the curatorial concept, exhibition theme and framework, the curatorial team choose 83 artists to participate in the thematic exhibition of the CAFA Art Museum, 12 artists to participate in the tracking project exhibition in the 798 art factory.

The 2nd “CAFAM Future” Exhibition in the CAFA Art Museum is categorized into four sections: Intelligence Field (I), Source Code (O), Cloud Production (C), E Cycle (E), and Future Formula – The 2nd CAFAM Future Exhibition Tracking Project (F). APT artist Xin WANG, Zhengyuan LU, Rongrong BI, and Che-Yu HSU’s artworks are on view at the exhibition.

Professor Zhengyuan LU launched an art project “CoCommune” (合作公社艺术项目, email: cocommune@qq.com) at the exhibition. He and his team collect materials and ideas from everyone who wishes to donate, match materials and ideas randomly, made into artworks, auction the finished works, and share the revenues. The project is on going till 1st March.
