Ocho derivas por la ciudad liminal

Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, Chiapas, Mexico, 08/02/2013 - 11/24/2013

ABOUT

The first presentation by Guillermo Santamarina as new Chief Curator of the Museum of Art Carrillo Gil , we share to approach some works from the Collection , designed by the eight approaches that converge in the hypothetical visit to a city very similar to this one where we are now (usually clearing setbacks and speculation ) , is in its starting point a couple of characters that in turn lead us to each of these echoes that reflect on the psychogeography of postmodern urban order .

One is the concept - metaphorically extended the notion of drift. Understood as the walk to the mercy of circumstances , it picks up as it passes alongside a series of images and ideas that weighted among others, the order , the signifiers , temporary tissue , and even feelings of urgent action declaring focused context .
Needless to prove , beyond which the concept of drift has been partially assimilated exercises that both randomly by Paris Surrealists undertook back in the 20s of last century (causing irritations passing certain conservative citizens ) , or decades later ( and more subversive accents ) was taken up in noisy marches lyricists and the Situationists . For the present case, the street comes to us that wander to the works on display.

The other concept is liminal , the threshold that defines a space or ambiguous or border identity , corresponding to a transition state , active in the eight drifts here quoted:

- Individual : The city has everything , Emotions , memories, experiences , limits , desires ... The relationship we create with the city we inhabit is intimate and everyday .
- Counterutopia : Taking into account that a significant number of works from the collection sites given as MACG shown as marginal areas or dystopias , I propose a reading of these not as representations that account for an adverse situation , but as a questioning of the paradigm utopian .
- Fragment : Fragments of the city that combine to be experienced differently depending on how we want to relate and to project it. This fragmentation and urban experiences contrast is represented in the museum's collection .
- Deterritorialization : lower class people from the province who have lost their roots and that are not identified as to their origin , or trendy places , department stores , restaurants or types of use with which people feel they can get another rank.
- Microrrelato : Associate borderline and ambiguous nature of the subjects and spaces in the urban context with the notion of marginality , to reflect on their condition dislocated and floating from the multiple exclusions that occur .
- Absence and presence : The city is the universe in which everything and nothing happens at once, where encounters and fill and empty each of its corners, where the absences and presences transform the spaces and time.
- Agency : The city as a living organism gestated by the interaction of those living in it ( the human habitat , even in the apparent disorder ) , and the pounding of the systems developed in it ( like veins and arteries on muscles and bones) , even in the inevitable chaos projection .
- Vacancy : vacant spaces , those empty city lacking a defined use or occupy a construction that also make up the skyline .
