ABOUT

Lisbon-based artist, Miguel Palma (b. 1964), has been exhibiting his work regularly since the late 80s, quickly establishing himself as one of Portugal’s most innovative artists. With a strong appeal to sculpture, Palma’s work has followed the direction of multimedia installations, using non-traditional methods of production and working regularly within a team of carpenters, mechanics, engineers, and biologists. His work orients into a hybrid practice, linking itself to the industrial production of the 20th century and its technological influence on the life of the modern man, its relationship with the environment, and the idea of human comfort as well as power dynamics. In parallel to the construction of large scale installations, Palma often resorts to drawings and miniature constructions of his projects. These works function simultaneously as a record of the intuitive work process of the artist as well as objects of aesthetic appreciation.
