Venice is in the constant flux of emerging & submerging. There are reminders of it everywhere; even the gallery space gets flooded at times! Jaanika Peerna creates a room size drawing installation that marks the highest ever water levels in the gallery and adds spouts that could turn on, at any moment.
She uses plastic film for her graphite drawings which makes them resistant to getting wet. There will also be a drawing series, “Three Movements on Water”.
All works have been created during her residency at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica di Venezia and in co-operation with Artist Pension Trust ®.
Jaanika Peerna, Estonian born artist living in New York since 1998 has exhibited extensively in New York, Berlin, Paris, Tallinn, Helsinki, Lisbon, Moscow, Dubai and Rome.
