ABOUT

Gideon Rubin’s fourth exhibition at the gallery includes works on canvas alongside recent developments which continue his investigation into the photographic image by sourcing popular news and entertainment magazines which he then paints over. Throughout his practice Rubin is interested in the relationship between painting, photography and reproduction and the mediation of images through duplication. In the new work he also claims that photographs, like painting, are subject to manipulation.

The enhanced or obscured magazines, from which the paintings also derive, have been sourced during recent residencies in Israel and China. The publication of the artists first monograph in March this year, includes essays by Sarah Suzuki, Associate Curator, MOMA, writer, critic & curator Gabriel Coxhead and writer Martin Herbert. It coincides with his first solo museum show at the Herzliya Museum for Contemporary Art, Israel.
