The Grass is Always Greener

With this group exhibition, the Museum of Contemporary Art presents international art focusing on cultural geography, longing and self-understanding.

The saying "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" is the starting point of the exhibition, that presents artists from Portugal, Austria and Denmark. The three countries have in common that they are all small countries neighboring large countries. In all languages, the saying refers ​​to the notion that the neighbor is doing a whole lot better than oneself, although it may not be true at all. The Grass is Always Greener shreds light on something very human, that is the way we understand ourselves by comparison to others. Among other things, the art works focus on the contrast between imaginary and real, homely and foreign, known and unknown and small and large.

The Grass is Always Greener is curated by the Portuguese curator Luisa Santos for the Museum of Contemporary Art and CAM - Centro de Arta Moderna (Gulbenkian Foundation) in Lisbon.
