ABOUT

When is a work of art considered finished? Do artists rely solely on their intuitions and frames of references in their respective artistic practices, or do they need to constantly question the degree of completion in their works? How does the intrinsic link between an artwork and an exhibition space get established? Does this co-dependency need to be eliminated? And who decides on the hierarchical preference and the limits of a work of art that is in the making? Is it necessary for a work of art to remain at the moment of the appearance of the ‘aura’, or is it really necessary to have it ‘completed’ in order to fill a kind of psychological void? Is there a need to record the process of completion of an artwork or should it just be left to happen?

The sense of time is completely different when occupying different physical spaces and while in different states of mentality, similar to that of the ever-changing spectrum of light. The degree of contemplation, the use of mediums, the setup of production, and the way in which the work is to be exhibited require different levels of control, that only through constant calibration and cross comparison can meaning becomes apparent. It is a challenge for every artist to maintain a sense of control over the concept of time and to negotiate the dependency over physical space. This exhibition attempts to follow the artists’ respective frames of references while re-considering the concept of Situationism as a platform where the above issues can be explored.
