REPEAT 2014

St. Amalberga Church, Bossuit, Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest, Brussels, 07/13/2014

ABOUT

A superfluous church in Bossuit, Belgium, originally built to replace a church destroyed in World War I, is made into an artificial ruin to create an outdoor public space for a village. The new terrazzo floor includes drawings both of the elements that were removed during demolition (pillars, ceiling arches, altars etc.) and of the shadow of the ruins of the church that previously occupied the site.

REPEAT was commissioned by the Municipality of Avelgem in collaboration with the Vlaams Bouwmeester Team.   The architect in charge of the demolition was Pol Sileghem & Partners.  The terrazzo floor was fabricated by Nino Tondat.
