ABOUT

The international jury selected Marinella Senatore as the winner of the 2014 Premio MAXXI Prize. In addition to the prestigious prize, the work will also be acquired by the National Museum of XXI Century Arts, Rome.

The Jury is composed of Fabio Cavallucci, Director Centre of Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, Massimiliano Gioni, Artistic Director of the Nicola Trussardi Foundation and Associate Director and Director of Exhibitions of the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, Hou Hanru, Artistic Director MAXXI, Anna Mattirolo, Director MAXXI Arte, Giuseppe Penone and Susanne Pfeffer, Artistic Director Kunsthalle Fridericianum.

The exhibition—along with Yuri Ancarani, Micol Assaël and Linda Fregni Nagler—continues until 21 September 2014.

Marinella Senatore’s The School Of Narrative Dance, Roma (2014) is positioned in the museum’s various galleries, integrating with the spaces designed by Zaha Hadid.

Senatore presents a free, travelling school of storytelling based on horizontal educational systems that bring about processes of emancipation and self-learning, where anyone can teach or be a student. In this work she reflects on the concept of the work of art as a participatory form of expression that can change the appearance of the area and society it is in. The experiences of the lessons will then flow into a theater-dance performance directed by the choreographers of the Berlin group ESPZ.
