Burma: The Quiet Violence

Thavibu Gallery, Krung Thep, Bangkok, 04/26/2014 - 05/24/2014

ABOUT

Thavibu Gallery is pleased to present the collection of political paintings,Burma: The Quiet Violence, by Myint Swe. The series features more than 30 paintings executed in Yangon between 1995 – 2005 that reflect the artist’s concerns about the detention of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the discouraging socio-political environment in Burma. Due to their overtly political nature, the paintings were secretly transported to Bangkok where they have been stored for some years. As the environment in Burma has now become more conducive to political discussion, Thavibu Gallery has decided to put the paintings on display. Also, it is now safe for the artist to travel to Bangkok, something that would not have been possible before.
