DRAWING PARALLEL

01/17/2014 - 01/18/2014

ABOUT

Drawing Parallel examines the medium of drawing in relation to movements that the human body performs in everyday life. Drawing has been one of the most primal human activities. In art, its meanings and approaches have taken different forms. It has gone beyond being just making marks with pencil on paper.

The performance is movement driven and an ephmeral installation is produced in the process. The “drawer” (the performer) will be “drawing” on surfaces using movement related to the idea of “cleaning”. The act of “cleaning” may include movements such as erasing, mopping, peeling, scraping and wiping. These actions create marks on surfaces or in space.

By drawing parallel between drawing and human daily movement, the performance attempts to encourage the audience to be more aware of their immediate environment and daily goings-on and to see that art is not something that is abstract and far-fetched. Artists do draw inspiration from things that are related to their daily lives, even if it is something very mundane, and they produce works that show their diverse commentaries and/or critique.

Initiated by visual artist Tang Ling Nah, the performance is a collaborative project with Kai Eng, Adele Goh, Bernice Lee and violinist Audrina Goh Ping.
