Pascual Sisto: Over and Over - New & Recent Video

Armory Center for the Arts, Maryland, Pasadena, 06/26/2011 - 09/11/2011

145 North Raymond Avenue

ABOUT

Curator: Irene Tsatsos

The exhibition features three recent videos: Over the Rainbow, a single-channel loop of vehicles endlessly crossing multiple highway overpasses, an engineering impossibility; Flight Patterns, a two-channel image, one of a flock of seagulls and the other of a set of commercial planes, clones that mimic the other; and 28 years in the implicate order, a single channel work in which dozens of balls bounce, each to its own rhythm which at one moment, converges in a single bounce. A new video work, Nonsense, consists of a circle of black-and-white silhouettes of the profiles of people’s heads as they murmur the words “walla walla,” generating the effect used by the film industry to imitate the sound of a crowd in the background. As with his other video work, Nonsense also uses accumulation and repetition as a strategy to bring a familiar image to a point of abstraction.
