ABOUT

Intersections presents a selection of works of art from MOLAA’s Permanent Collection that connect to one another and generate a dialogue between the past and the present of Latin American art. The exhibition is structured around an exercise of inter-connectivity that ties together two works of art by two of the most significant Moderns masters: Joaquin Torres-Garcia and David Alfaro Siqueiros.

Following the concept of the emblematic drawing América invertida, 1943, by Joaquin Torres-Garcia in which the artist reversed the map of America questioning the hegemony of the North in the Americas and proposing a new order, Intersections moves “geographically” from the South, with works of art by the School of the South, to the North, in Mexico, with the muralists and the Mexican School.

At the same time, the exhibition creates a different journey made up of a dialogue between modern and contemporary artists who propose dynamic readings about recurrent themes and modes of expression across generations and disparate geographic contexts in Latin America. The different sections in Intersections examine abstract art, the usage of written language and notions of nationality and identity.
