BIOGRAPHY
Francesca Banchelli (b. 1981, Italy) holds a BA from the Academy of Fine Art of Florence and an MA in Fine Art from the Central Saint Martins of London. The work of Francesca Banchelli is a multi-disciplinary practice encompassing paintings, performance, video, drawings, and sculptures. Banchelli’ oeuvre manifests through a process of transformation revealing the moment where a given context become an 'event'. She uses  this concept to investigate individual and collective tensions, through the lens of ‘visions’ that anchor in imagination, potentialities of the future and the incognito of the present being.

Her work has been recently showed internationally in several galleries, museums and biennials among which: MANIFESTA 11 Cabaret der Künstler – Zunfthaus Voltaire, (2016); MACBA, Barcelona, Spain, (2016); WILKINSON Gallery, London, UK (2015); Sifang Art Museum, Nanjing, China (2015); Tate Modern, London, UK, (2014); 13th Istanbul Biennial/official parallel-event, (2013); New Capital, Chicago, USA, (2012); Frankfurter Kunstverein, (2012); S1Artspace, Sheffield, UK, (2012). In 2012 she was guest-artist of the Frankfurter Kunstverein ‘Deutsche Börse Residency Programme’, and won the first prize ‘Portali dello Scompiglio’, Accademia dello Scompiglio, Vorno, IT; in 2013 she was finalist at ‘Liveworks Performance Art Award’, Centrale Fies/DOCVA Viafarini.
