BIOGRAPHY

Giulia Ricci was born in Bagnacavallo (Italy) in 1976 and has been living in London since 2004.  In 1999 she obtained a degree in Fine Art Painting at the Academy of Fine Art of Bologna (Italy), followed by a degree in History of Art at the University of Bologna in 2003. In 2007 she completed an MFA in Sculpture at The Slade School of Fine Art, University College, London.

Her work has featured in various group shows, including London-Berlin Anschlüssel at The Centre For Recent Drawing, London, and at Fruehsorge Contemporary Drawings, Berlin (2011-12), Towards a New Abstraction at MACC in Sardinia, Italy (2012), The Edge of Painting at the Piper Gallery, London (2013), Milton Keynes Calling at Milton Keynes Gallery (2013), Crossing Lines at &Model in Leeds and Wunderkammer at Bartha Contemporary in London (2014).  She has been shortlisted for the Jerwood Drawing Prize in 2010, 2011 and 2015; her work is featured in the drawing anthology Walk the Line: The art of Drawing, published by Laurence King in 2013. Giulia Ricci has been artist in residence at the Estorick Collection, London (2010), where she held a solo show, and at MoDA, the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture at Middlesex University, London (2012). In 2015 she completed a large-scale permanent artwork commissioned by Modus Operandi, on behalf of Crown Estate, for a building in Air Street near Piccadilly Circus, London.

Giulia Ricci is represented in London by Bartha Contemporary.
