BIOGRAPHY

Ohad Matalon (b. 1972 Kibbutz Eilot, Israel) received an MFA in Art from Bezalel Academy of Art in Jerusalem in 2001, and a BFA in Photography with an excellently award from Bezalel in 2007. Matalon teaches photography at Bezalel Academy of Art and at Beit Berl College.

One of the main aspects of Ohad Matalon's work over the last few years has been an attempt to debate and rethink the means in which photographic works are presented and viewed. This debate tries to create experiences that confront the viewer with the vulnerable and unstable state of contemporary images and with their complex ontological status, while paralleling these images with subversion and reflection on artistic photography as a commodity. Another central aspect of Matalon's work is an ongoing dialogue with other mediums – especially sculpture, painting and performance – with the use of digital techniques, in order to expand the variety of actions that take place during the creation of his photographs; Acts of sculpting, acting, performing, and textualizing that occur prior to or during the act of photography are supported by digital editing that connects, transforms, or expands them.
