BIOGRAPHY

Cédric Maridet is a contemporary artist based in Hong Kong. His work explores the act of listening, collecting, and archiving as a departure point for possible knowledge and fiction to construct alternative landscapes in the forms of video, installations, photography, sound compositions and works on paper. His works are presented internationally through residencies (Asia Art Archive), group and solo exhibitions (Art in General, Tate Modern, Para/Site, 2P Contemporary).

Maridet studied literature and sociolinguistics in Paris VII University, and holds a PhD in Media Arts (City University of Hong Kong). He was awarded Prize of Excellence in the Hong Kong Art Biennial 2005. He has participated in several residencies (i.e. Asia Art Archive and Mamori ArtLab) and public talks on listening theories and the aesthetics of sound (Rijeka Contemporary Art Museum, EMF-EMS 2011 conference in New York University). His writings have been published in two books on sound (Around, soundpocket 2011) and on curating (Who Cares? 16 essays on curating in Asia, Para/Site, 2010). Maridet also contributes to French-based research lab in audio art at Locus Sonus and he is also advisor for soundpocket, a non-profit organisation promoting sound art and culture in Hong Kong. Some of his works have been published on his platform Monème and released on CD and books. His works have been collected by HK Museum of Art and private collectors.
