BIOGRAPHY

John Clang (b. 1973, Singapore) is a visual artist working in photography. His first at 20 yrs old, was a duo-show at the controversial (and now defunct) Singapore art space, 5th Passage Artists.

Clang's fascination on time, displacement and existence influence his work. His photographs examine and raise questions of the world he lives in, providing not pictorial documentation but an intimate mental reflection of one man's mind.

In 2010, he became the first photographer to receive the Designer of the Year award at the President's Design Award. It is the most prestigious design accolade in Singapore. Selected solo exhibitions include Being Together: Family & Portraits – Photographing with John Clang, National Museum of Singapore (Singapore, 2013), Con(Front), 2902 Gallery (Singapore, 2010) and Clang. A Self Portrait, Jendela Gallery (Singapore, 2004). Selected group exhibitions includes I See China, Pekin Fine Arts (Beijing, 2012) and TransportAsian, Singapore Art Museum (Singapore, 2009)

John Clang lives and works in New York and Singapore. He is represented by 2902 Gallery (Singapore) and Pekin Fine Arts (Beijing).
