BIOGRAPHY

Emily Cheng is the recipient of a fellowship from the Pollock Krasner Foundation, New York Foundation of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, and a Yaddo Fellowship. 

Emily has lived and worked in New York City for the last 30 years exhibiting nationally and internationally. Her solo shows include MOCA, Taipei, The Bronx Museum, Plum Blossom Gallery, Winston Wachter Fine Art, Bravin Post Lee Gallery, Schmidt Dean Gallery in Philadelphia, Louis Vuitton and Hanart Gallery in Hong Kong, Metropolitan Museum of Manila, Ayala Museum, Philippines; Byron Cohen Gallery in Kansas City; The Cincinatti Center of Contemporary Art, and Timezone 8, in Beijing. She has participated in group exhibitions such as the Guangzhou Triennial, Guangdong Museum of Art; Contrast Gallery, Shanghai; Beijing Art Fair, China; Gallery at the University of Bangkok, Thailand; Juan Silos Gallery, Santander, Spain; Kidspace, MASS MoCA, MA; Contemporary Art Museum at USF, Tampa, Florida; Yerba Buena Contemporary Art Center, SF; National Academy of Arts, American Academy of Arts and Letters, NY; Katonah Museum of Art, Christies, London and Sotheby’s, NY. 
 
In 2007,Timezone 8 published Emily Cheng, Chasing Clouds, A decade of studies, a compendium of over 350 illustrated studies made over the last ten years with  essays by Johnson Chang and Kevin Powers. Emily currently teaches Asian art history at School of Visual Arts in New York. She received a BFA in painting from Rhode Island School of Design and studied at the New York Studio School for three years with Nicolas Carone, Leland Bell, Elaine de Kooning and Joan Mitchell. In 2014, Emily will participate in the residency program of the De Wang Highlands Art Center in Shenzhen for four months.
