BIOGRAPHY
Kanako Hayashi was born in 1981 in Osaka, Japan, and currently
lives and
works in Tokyo.web: http://kanakohayashi.net
She gathers historical traces and fragments of memory in urban
space where diverse people come and go, and attempt to make these
invisible things visible by means of actions and setups. In one of
her site-specific works, she intervened physically into the gaps
and cracks of walls and streets, so that the memories of the
emotions such as joy and sorrow, which are associated with these
places, and a new time and place can be mediated. Hayashi`s work is
influenced by her intense training experience in competitive
swimming and synchronized swimming during her teenage years. The
experience underwater has led her to observe the world from an
extraordinary point of view, develop a physical sense of being in
restricted environment and nurture the creativity that drives from
restriction.
