BIOGRAPHY

Song-Ming ANG (b. 1980) works in Berlin and in Singapore.

He uses music as his starting point to produce artworks and performances. Materials such as music posters, school songs, guitars and mix-tapes are each remade with an internal logic or re-contextualized with its own narrative.

Be True to Your School (2010) captures on video former students of a Japanese elementary school, attempting to remember and sing their school song - decades after graduation; ACDC Lane, Melbourne (2010) is a photographic record of music posters found in an alley of the same name in Australia; while the text on his print Rhyme and Reason (2009) works as a sonic riddle for the viewer to unravel.

The instant photographs in Nowhere Man (2010) documents his 2.5-hour walk from the Guernsey Airport to the city center – navigated via recorded oral instructions by the curator without reference to street names.

Ang has exhibited and performed at the 3rd Singapore Biennale (2011), Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin), Gertrude Contemporary (Melbourne), ARCUS Project (Japan), SCHUNCK (Netherlands), and held solo exhibitions at Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin), Stanley Picker Gallery (London), SoundFjord (London) and Spring Workshop (Hong Kong).
