BIOGRAPHY

Kengo Kito (b. 1977, Japan) received a BFA in oil painting at Nagoya University of Fine Arts and Music in 2001. He completed his Postgraduate Studies at Kyoto City University of Fine Arts and Music in 2003. Kito mainly uses hula-hoops, laces, chains, mirrors, and other daily objects to create artworks. He plays with ordinary ready-made materials to make two- and three-dimensional sculptures, installations, and videos. He draws inspiration from biology, organism, and nature.

Kengo received the Encouragement Prize from Kyoto City University of Fine Arts and Music in 2003. He was also awarded the Gotoh Foundation Scholarship in 2008-2009, and Japan Agency for Cultural Affairs Scholarship in 2010.

Selected solo exhibitions include: Cosmic Dust at Kenji Taki Gallery in Tokyo (2004), Quasar at Gallery Koyanagi in Tokyo (2004), PUBLIC’SPACE’PROJECT at Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo (2007), Cosmic Elements at Eaplanade in Singapore (2008), Flimsy Royal at Humanities Gallery in Long Island University (2009), and Sagittarius at am Gallery in Tokyo (2010). Selected group exhibitions include Accretion Disk at Mori Yu Gallery in Kyoto (2002), On Flowering Images; Contemporary Japanese Photography at Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Tokyo (2004), Food and Contemporary Art part 2 at BankART 1929 Yokohama in Kanagawa (2006), Roppongi Crossing at Mori Museum in Tokyo (2007), Twenty at Dazed and Confused in London (2008), Barock Plastik at I-MYU Projects in London (2009), and Gallery Group Show at Gallery Koyanagi in Tokyo (2010). Kengo Kito lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
