BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1976 in Liverpool, United Kingdom, Laurence Kavanagh lives and works in London. Kavanagh is an artist and a curator, developing his visual practice across a range of media, including collage and installation. His sculptural work explores the ways in which objects, like props, come in and out of focus as they are invested with narrative value and projected memories. Kavanagh often relies on cinematographic or literary references to provide a framework for his pieces, translating their sequential arrangements into multi-layered images and spatial constructions reminiscent of set design. Combining scored domestic and office interiors, his work “The Lonely House” (2008) is an intricate large-scale installation based on a series of films that were projected at the Archway cinemas in North London before the theatres were destroyed.
