BIOGRAPHY
Bia Gayotto was born in Florianópolis, SC, Brazil in 1962.
Gayotto received her BA in
Biology from Santo Amaro College of Arts and Sciences (1983),
followed by a degree in
Communication and Semiotics (1993), and a M.F.A from
UCLA, California in
1996. Gayotto has exhibited in both one and two person shows,
the most recent ones
being Los Angeles International Airport (2015),
Pasadena Museum of
California Art (2014) and Project Space Gallery at Montalvo
Arts Center (2012). She
has also exhibited in a variety of international
group exhibitions
including SENAC, São Paulo, Brazil (2015); Treasure Hill
Artist Village, Taipei,
Taiwan (2014) and Museum of Contemporary Art, University
of São Paulo (2013).
Gayotto’s work belongs to both public collections
(Los Angeles County
Museum of Art (LACMA); Grunwald Center for the Graphic
Arts, University of
California, Los Angeles, CA; the Museum of Contemporary
Art, University of São
Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil, and the California Institute
of Technology, Pasadena,
CA and private collections around the world.
Gayotto received many
distinctions beginning early in her career (1988) and
has continued to excel,
most recently, receiving an Artist in Residence Grant from
the City of Los Angeles
Department of Cultural Affairs (2016) and Investing in
Artists Grant from the
Center for Cultural Innovation (2014). Gayotto was an
artist-in-residence at AIR
Taipei, Taiwan (2014), Lucas Artist Fellow at Montalvo
Arts Center, Saratoga
(2012) and Banff Centre, Canada (2008). Gayotto is an
adjunct professor of
photography at the Art Center College of Design and Pasadena
City College
(PCC).
