Lyota Yagi was born in Ehime in 1980, lives and works in Kyoto.
Sound based work is foremost amongst his wide repertoire of expression techniques, which expand to found object, video, installation and interactive art. In his works, Yagi takes up familiar items and reconsiders their functions; by recompiling them he allows new meanings to surface.
Selected solo exhibitions include "A view from higher dimension" at Mujin-to Production in Tokyo (2011); "OPEN SPACE 2008 : emergencies! 008 :Lyota Yagi [Kai-Ten : the world's spinning]" NTT InterCommunication Center[ICC] in Tokyo (2008); "criterium70 : Lyota Yagi" at Art Tower Mito, Contemporary Art Gallery in Ibaraki(2007); "side a : timer / side b: waltz" at Mujin-to Production in Tokyo (2006).

2012 saw Yagi become Artist in Residence at Location One, New York with a support
of Asian Cultural Council (ACC) fellowship.
Yagi graduated from Department of Space Design, Kyoto University of Art and Design, in 2003, and is now a Lecturer in Spacial Design at the same institution.
