BIOGRAPHY

Born in Israel in 1975, Alon Levin lives and works in Berlin and Den Haag. Levin uses a range of media, including installation, drawing, video and collage. His practice investigates the constructs that are used in order to buffer our partial understanding of the world, pushing the language of systemization to its formal limit, where it appears at once instantly recognizable and absolutely impenetrable. Levin’s work formalizes the invisible socio-economic, political and philosophical structures that organize and regulate contemporary society. His particular visual iconography borrows elements from marketing devices, such as pie charts and color-coding. His architectonic structures often suggest mystical, utopian or nationalist readings, as a result of their bold colors and mathematical arrangements, such as spiral formations.

Recent solo exhibition include: Conclusion to the Big Ideas, AMBACH & RICE Los Angeles, CA (2011); End to The Grand Gesture, KLEMM’S, Berlin (2011); Modernity in Very General Terms, AMBACH & RICE at Art Cologne, Cologne (2011); “The Object as Never Seen Before (Who Said the World Was Round)” at Art Amsterdam with Stroom Den Haag, Amsterdam (2010), 'Art for the Masses' at Ambach & Rice, Seattle (2010), “Things Contemporary” at art forum berlin with Klemm’s, Berlin (2009) and 'Postponed Modernism' at Klemm’s, Berlin (2009).
