BIOGRAPHY

Gina Osterloh’s art practice embodies photography and video as an interdisciplinary site for public engagement, questions of visibility, and perception.  Meticulously constructed for the camera, the constructed sets in her photographs depict life-size obssesively constructed paper rooms, activated by still performances with human, paper-mache, and cut-out figures. Recent projects include moving her entire studio practice into Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions for GROUP DYNAMIC AND IMPROPER LIGHT, which also assisted in the development of a language based project Pulling Apart Voice with actors and artists.  Osterloh’s exhibition ANONYMOUS FRONT, at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco 2012 featured a new video essay on physical blindness, perception, and identity, created with the blind massage therapist cooperative in Manila, Philippines called New Vision.

Osterloh’s first monograph, Group Dynamic, published by LACE, designed by Willem Henri Lucas, and distributed by RAM is now available online via RAM publications, signed and in an edition of 500.

Other recent exhbitions include Asia Serendipity a traveling exhibition in Spain curated by Fumio Nanjo, director of the Mori Museum; Art Cologne with François Ghebaly Gallery; Workplace Gallery UK;  ART Hong Kong and PHOTO PARIS by Silverlens Gallery. Gina Osterloh has exhibited widely including Hong Kong, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Indonesia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City.  Reviews of her work include Art in America, Hyphen Magazine, Art Asia Pacific, Asian Art News, Art Monthly Australia, Art on Paper, Giant Robot, the LA Times, Art Forum Online, Artbound Online & Art Practical.

Osterloh holds a BA in media studies from DePaul University and an MFA in studio art from the University of California, Irvine.
