BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1976 in Parma, Italy, Alice Guareschi lives and works in Milan and Paris. Guareschi conceives of her practice as a particular way of writing, which explores the relationship between words, objects and images. She portrays reality through a subtle composition of fragments and selected details. She works through associations as a means of materializing leaps of thought and lapses of memory. Using a wide range of media including video, sculpture and text, Guareschi’s work departs from the notion that reality is fluid and always highly subjective. Central to her practice is the idea of the journey – the path that unites two places, the space that separates two objects, the time suspended between two different experiences – as a metaphorical labyrinth or spiral, within which abstract figures speak of a possible loss of direction, or of the multiplication of sight that might result from different and unforeseen perspectives.
