BIOGRAPHY

Sophie Bueno-Boutellier (b. 1974 Toulouse, France) studied at the Villa Arson in Nice. Selected exhibitions include solo shows at Cardenas-Bellanger in Paris, La Galerie Noisy-le-Sec and the Contemporay Art Center of the Synagogue de Delme. She also participated in the exhibition Paris-Londres: Le Voyage Interieur, curated by Alex Farquharson & Alexis Vaillant, at Espace Electra in Paris.  In 2009 she participed in the Prix Ricard and Antidotes 5, and had a solo show in Chert gallery and Circus gallery in Berlin.  She is represented by The approach in London.  Sophie Bueno-Boutellier lives and works in Berlin.

Sophie allows herself to be influenced by mysticisms and theosophies along with influences from the rational world.  Her installations are created from an extensive list of materials including dyed cotton sheets, brass, felt, mud, ostrich eggs, bottles, cable, and countless list of other objects.  Her piece, “Golden Skirt,” exemplifies her romantic influences through the gold color and light shape of the skirt.  The neatly planned cutting of the chromoluxe paper allows for the viewer to understand her artful combination of the rational with a light-hearted dream.
