BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1974 in Zurich, Switzerland, David Renggli lives and works in Zurich and Texas. Renggli’s sculptures transform everyday objects – from rubber boots to leeks – into fragile and poetic still lives. These works often play with the fine line that distinguishes conservation from deterioration. His installation piece “Who Was First" (2005), for instance, consists of various elements submerged in formaldehyde. Renggli’s assemblages also exist as photographs, humorously questioning the mundane, and offering an unsettling perspective on our way of seeing.

David Renggli has recently presented solo exhibitions at Wentrup, Berlin, Germany (2012); Galerie Chez Valentin, Paris (2010, 2012), Associazione Barriera, Turin (2010), Wentrup, Berlin (2009), Fri-Art, Kunsthalle Fribourg (2009) and Museum Kunstraum, Baden Baden (2009).

His work has also been shown as part of exhibitions including "Bilderwahl! Metamorphose ... heute!", Kunsthaus Zürich, Switzerland (2011); "Through the looking brain", Kunstmuseum, Bonn, Germany (2011); "Die Nase des Michelangelo", Galerie Peter Kilchmann, Zurich, Switzerland (2010); “Swiss award, Messe, Switzerland; "Chim Chim Cheree", L.A.P, Brussels, Belgium (2010); "Los Vigilantes a la playa", Nicoletta Rusconi, Milano, Italy (2010); “The Conspiracy” at Kunsthalle Bern, Bern (2009), “Hocus Pocus out of Focus” at Kunstraum Baden, Baden, Aargauer Kunsthaus, Aarau and Kunsthalle Fridericianum, Kassel (2009), “The Way in Which it Landed” at Tate Britain, London (2008), “Shifting Identities” at Kunsthaus, Zurich (2008) and “Housewarming” at the Swiss Institute, New York (2006). He is a recipient of the Swiss Art Awards, Basel (2007) and the UBS Young Art Award (2006).

David Renggli is represented by Galerie Peter Kilchmann, Zurich, and Wentrup, Berlin.
