BIOGRAPHY

Rubén Ortiz Torres (b. 1964 Mexico City) received an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California, in 1992, and a Licenciatura en Artes Visuales from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City in 1986. He is an Associate Professor at the University of California at San Diego, and a recipient of the 2006 COLA Individual Artist Fellowship and the 2005 California Community Foundation Award. Selected exhibitions include shows at Museum of Fine Arts in Houston (2004); Gallery 400 in Chicago (2003); and Grazer Kunstverein in Graz, Austria (2000). He is represented by the Jan Kesner Gallery in Los Angeles. Rubén Ortiz Torres lives and works in Los Angeles.
