Marco Rios is an artist who works in sculpture, photography, video, and performance. He received his MFA in Studio Art from the University of California, Irvine and his undergraduate degree from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles.
His interest in psychological and emotional states serves as a starting point for his work. Literary, cinematic, and art historical references influence his projects, which tend to be hyperbolic in nature. In all his work, he employs humor and slapstick tactics to address the more solemn issues of failure, death, desire, and despair.
His work has recently been exhibited at Harris Lieberman and Artists Space in New York, as well as Five-Thirty-Three Gallery and LA25 in Los Angeles. Upcoming exhibitions include a solo show at Simon Preston Gallery in New York and Phantom Sightings, a group exhibition at LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art). In 2007, He was a recipient of the California Community Foundation Fellowship.
