BIOGRAPHY

Julia Oschatz (b. 1970 Darmstadt, Germany) studied at the State College of Design, Offenbach; the State College of Fine Arts, Frankfurt; at Listaskola, Reykjavik and at the École des Beaux-Arts, Bourges. Selected solo exhibitions include Städtische Galerie, Delmenhorst; Kunstverein Ulm; CAB, Centro de Arte, Burgos, Spain; Kemper Art Museum, Kansas City. She has also participated in shows at Kunsthalle Hamburg; Museum der Bildenden Künste, Leipzig; Center for National Art, Tashkent, Uzbekistan and the Parrish Art Museum, New York; Palagkas Temporary, London; Organhaus, Chongqing, China.

Julia Oschatz works with paintings, drawings, video, computer animation and sounds in her room sized installations. Her work ranges from aerial paintings, which flatten and alienate us from an environment we thought we knew to performative videos where the laws of physics and habits of psychology are frequently turned on their head. These simulated activities of the performances and her way of satellite imagery brings us closer to the varying forms of humanity.

She is represented by Leslie Tokonow Artworks + Projects in New York, Galerie Anita Beckers in Frankfurt and Galerie Mikael Andersen in Berlin/Copenhagen. Julia Oschatz lives and works in Berlin.
