BIOGRAPHY

Craig Mulholland was born in 1969 in Glasgow, Scotland, where he continues to live and work. While Mulholland uses a range of media, including digital animation, sculpture, drawing, text and sound, his’ practice might best be described as painting in the expanded field. Visually indebted to Suprematist design, gothic fantasy and science fiction, Mulholland’s work lends concrete shape to the virtual networks of information technology. Taking the form of schematic representations and mechanical displays, his pieces explore the coercive control that technocratic systems exert over individuals and social bodies, departing from such philosophical and literary influences as the writings of Michel Foucault and William S. Burrows.

Recent solo exhibitions include “YOU ALWAYS WANTED IN TIME SQUARE AND LESS, UK & US. (With Mother Tongue) (2016), FUNCTION CREEPS, Kendall Koppe, Glasgow, UK. (2016) , 'Grandes et Petites Machines” presented at Spike Island, Bristol, the Glasgow School of Art and Sorcha Dallas, Glasgow (2008), “Art Now Lightbox” at Tate Britain, London (2005), “Bearer on Demand” at Transmission, Glasgow (2005), “Arphid” at Whitechapel Project Space, London (2005) and “RFID” at The Changing Room, Glasgow (2005). His work has also been shown as part of “Fragments of Marchines” at IMO Projects, Copenhagen and Neue Aachene Kunstverein, Aachen (2010)“I am a Camera” at Sorcha Dallas, Glasgow (2009), Videonale 12 at Kunstmuseum, Bonn (2009), “Blackberrying” at Galleri Christina Wilson, Copenhagen (2007), “Totally PC” at CCA Glasgow (2006) and “His Life is Full of Miracles…” at Site Gallery, Sheffield (2006).
