BIOGRAPHY
The visual artist Tuomas A. Laitinen works with various media. The human-made environment and the circulation of both time and matter are recurrent themes in his work. His recent extensive installations combine sound, light and moving images. Thematically he has focused on the use of natural resources, urbanization, and the global economy.
 
 
Tuomas A. Laitinen (b. 1976, Riihimäki) graduated from the Department of Time and Space at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki, in 2008. He has recently worked in the USA, Germany and Estonia. Most of his projects of recent years have been in China. Laitinen has participated in exhibitions and festivals around the world, e.g. the Moving Image art fair, New York, 2015; the 5th Cairo Video Festival, 2013; and the N‑Minutes Video Art Festival, Shanghai, 2011, 2012. In 2014, Laitinen was awarded the Fine Arts Academy of Finland prize. The award is granted every second year to an emerging internationally interesting Finnish artist.
