Message from the Chairman, Curatorial Insight, December 2013

12/16/2013

Dear All,

2013 was a great year, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did here at Artist Pension Trust. It seems like it was a busy time for all of us, given the amount of exhibitions and events that you participated in, which I am very pleased to see. I hope you had a lot of success this year, and I wish you all the best for the next one.

In case you may have missed it, I would like to share with you some of the articles that were published about us in the past few months: two articles in Forbes (here and here), ArtInfo, Financial Times, China Daily, a podcast with ArtTactic, and more. Many journalists wrote about the fact that we have initiated the sales process of our APT Collection. We prepared an infographic for you that we have included it in this newsletter, which should clarify the process in case you may have any questions. Our mission is to sell artwork and secure the highest benefit for our artists’ future financial security. That is why we are initiating the process strategically, and have set up various guidelines to make sure that the artwork and its buyer are a perfect match. I look forward to updating you on our progress.

APT Institute, founded in 2013 to advance contemporary art and artists on the international art scene, has introduced a range of initiatives that weave together art world professionals and their organizations with our network of leading curators and contemporary artists’ artwork for targeted collaborations and interactions. As a result of this extensive exposure, leading museums, galleries and art institutions worldwide such as Tate Modern London, Seoul Museum of Art, Göteborg Konsthal, Harlem Studio,l or the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, just to name a few, have borrowed over 300 works of art from the APT Collection for viewing in over 100 exhibitions in the past 12 months. Indeed, demand continues to grow at a prodigious rate.

Furthermore, APT Institute has also designed Art Concierge, a unique initiative that connects curators and art professionals with local artists at their travel destination. If you are planning a trip in the near future, let us know and we will connect you to local artists and arrange studio visits for you.

APT Institute presented two exhibitions in September/October with artwork from the APT Collection: “CAUTION! THINGS MAY APPEAR DIFFERENT THAN THEY ARE!” in Nuremberg, Germany, and “Acting out of Nothingness” in London, UK. On September 14, 2013 “CAUTION!” opened to more than 15,000 viewers in its first weekend, and showcased 70 artworks by 30 APT artists from all over the world. “Acting out of Nothingness” coincided with the Frieze London Art Fair, and displayed artwork from Japanese contemporary artists at the Daiwa Foundation in London, UK. The Artist Talk, which took place at end of October, was very well received with over 100 guests.

We have also been looking for the perfect location in New York for our sales team to showcase APT artists’ work. We finally found that place in NeueHouse, and have even partnered with them to exhibit over 40 works of art from the APT Collection.

Please keep us informed about your new exhibitions, publications and lectures by sending them to events@aptglobal.org. If you have any suggestions, inquiries, questions or feedback, please feel free to get in touch with the APT team or myself at anytime. Please keep in mind that we are always available for you and welcome your feedback.

Kind regards and best wishes for the holiday season,

Moti Shniberg
